Engineers Petition
This slide was a part of the original slideshow. Names were added to the slide in the January 2008 slideshow.
Similar Numbers To Architects
In this slide, Gage lists 14 active and retired licensed engineers and 14 associated professionals who have signed on to his organization. At the website, there are 72 active and retired licensed engineers, along with 115 associated professionals as of 31 March 2008. (In addition to these numbers, there are 26 non-US architectural and engineer professionals listed.) So this is a total of 187 engineering professionals.
In September 2006, membership of the American Society of Civil Engineers was just under 140,000. Again, I will mention that not all the members of the ASCE have positively stated their opinion of the WTC collapses. I only mean to show that the members of AE911Truth have a long way to go in convincing their fellow members about their suspicions.
As on the last slide, an appeal to large numbers can be just as fallacious as an appeal to authority. The crucial test is in the way that facts are recognized and interpreted. It is there that either the 187 or the 140,000 will be vindicated. As I will show, the 140,000 have nothing to worry about.
And again I point out that Gage has not revealed the number of people who have heard his presentation and not signed his petition.
Furthermore, Gage admits that 54 of these people (both architects and engineers) have yet to be actually verified with a hard copy of their credentials. When Gage is trumpeting 302 members of his organization, you should be aware that fully one-sixth of them don't trust the man enough to send in their credentials.
Types of Engineers
It should be noted that all engineers are not created equal. Engineers come in many different specialties.
And a look at the Architects & Engineers roster shows this clearly. Of the licensed engineers that have filled out profiles, there is a sewer and street designer, a specialist in solar energy and housing, a fire protection engineer, another energy engineer, water resources and management, a computer engineer, an asbestos consultant, hazardous waste management, industrial wastewater, computer network engineer, process engineering in the natural gas industry, and a chemical engineer. Clearly all of these people cannot be speaking in their field of expertise here.
3 Structural Engineers
Gage does list at least three structural engineers on his page, however, and they have given a short synopsis of their reasons for joining Gage's crusade.
Ronald Brookman writes:
One of our primary responsibilities as architects and engineers is to protect public safety, and we take this seriously. Massive structural failures leading to loss of life are rare and preventable occurrences, and it is imperative that we answer all of the questions about the WTC disaster correctly. I would really like to know exactly why complete collapse of the twin towers was "inevitable" for all 110 stories in about 10 seconds - twice.
I direct Mr. Brookman's attention to the NIST Final Report on the Twin Towers and the various papers helmed by Dr. Zdenek P. Bazant. NIST has determined the basic sequence of events leading up to collapse initiation, and the papers of Bazant et al. demonstrate how such large masses in motion would quickly overwhelm any structural capacity to redistribute dynamic loads.
For an objection, Mr. Brookman's is rather bland. His fellow AE911Truth member, Kamal S. Obeid, writes:
Only recently have I begun to examine the structural collapse of the buildings. Photos of the steel, evidence about how the buildings collapsed, the unexplainable collapse of WTC 7, evidence of thermite in the debris as well as several other red flags, are quite troubling indications of well planned and controlled demolition.
Mr. Obeid will actually rate his own slide later in this presentation, so I will deal with his objections there.
Finally, Dennis J. Kollar writes:
For me the most convincing aspect that the 911 collapse was a controlled demolition is the recorded explosions on the 9/11 Eyewitness DVD. The explosions, along with the uniformity and totality of the collapses, when added to the 100's of so-called coincidences on, before and after that day, add up to more evidence of a Government involved crime than has convicted most people in our prisons today.RKOwens4 YouTube: WTC "Pre-Collapse Explosions" Identified
That YouTube video, put together by RKOwens4, introduces two separate alternate theory movies, 911 Eyewitness and 911 Mysteries. The history of interaction between these two films and Rick Siegal, the person who filmed the original footage that so convinced Mr. Kollar, is a convoluted tale. Just to be clear, the only alteration to 911 Eyewitness' soundtrack is a volume increase and maybe some sweetening of the sound. Mr. Siegal is adamant in his opposition against 911 Mysteries, which took his footage and actually added explosions to the soundtrack.
RKOwens4 makes a great point here in his short video. No other camera captured these explosions. Since Rick Siegal's camera was a couple of miles away from the towers, it's far more likely that the "explosions" come from other sources, like wind on the microphone.
